Rebecca Resnik (Rebecca Resnik and Associates LLC) – “Transmissions from the Black Box: How human emotion impacts cognition, language, and behavior”

Abstract

Previously, science conceived of emotions as ‘bugs’ in an otherwise exceptional computational system, the human brain. Recent discoveries from neuroscience reveal that emotions are not ‘bugs’ at all, but integral ‘features’ of human cognition. This talk focuses on how emotions manifest, both to the observer, and to the self, and includes discussion of the function of emotions, as well as how emotions impact cognition, language, and behavior.
