When Good Recognizers Go Bad: Prosodic Cues to Recognition Errors

Full Presentation: [ .ps | .pdf ]

To suggest methods of recognizing that ASR errors have occurred and to potentially improve system performance after such errors, I will describe comparisons of the acoustic/prosodic characteristics (pitch range, amplitude, timing, inter alia) of mis-recognized utterances, corrections of ASR errors, and utterances following evidence of an ASR error. The analysis was performed on data collected during independent experiments done with the TOOT travel information system prototype, conducted by Diane Litman and Shimei Pan.
