I recevied my bachelor's degree in 1990 from Computer Science dept. at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology. It was originally started as Korea Institutie of Technology (KIT) and I was one of the first students of KIT. After I graduated, it was merged to KAIST. My advisor was Prof. Yung Hwan Oh and I studied the basics of speech recognition under his guidance.

Then I moved to Pohang University of Science and Technology and received my Master's degree in 1992 from Computer Science and Engineering dept. I studied Neural Networks applied to character recognition. I wrote a paper on document recognition mixed with Korean and Chinese characters and received the best poster award in 1992 International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN). My advisor was Prof. Sung-Yang Bang.

From 1992 to 1998 I worked with Korea Telecom (KT) Research Center. At KT, I was involved in speech recognition, speech translation, etc. Especially, we held the speech to speech translation demo between Korean and Japanese which was the world's 2nd demo of that kind.

From 1998 I have been working toward my Ph.D. degree at the Johns Hopkins University. I am a member of the famous CLSP which is led by Prof. Frederick Jelinek.

Besides my work experience at KT, I worked as a TA for several semesters for Database systems, Information Retrieval and Web Agents courses taught by Prof. David Yarowsky at Hopkins. Also, during the summer of 2001, I worked as an intern at SpeechWorks International, Boston MA. Since 2001, I've been working as an RA for Prof. Sanjeev Khudanpur.

I got married in 1996 and have two kids (boys).
