Organisational Information for ECE 520.674

The course material will be presented in a style somewhere between a regular course a graduate seminar.

The bulk of the course will be based on articles and papers from journals and conference proceedings. The list of papers to be discussed will be announced at the meeting of the class, and the depth of treatment of individual topics will be adjusted to reflect the overall interests and needs of the participants. For a sample of papers discussed in the past, see this PDF file or this Postscript file.

The review of basic information theory will be based on selected chapters from Elements of Information Theory by T. M. Cover and J. A. Thomas (1991).

Grades will be based on in-class participation (34%) and two take-home examinations (33% each) to be given in each half of the course.

The class is tentatively scheduled to meet Thu-Fri 9:00-10:15 AM. Meeting times are amenable to change based on class concensus. Those considering participation should attend the first meeting and voice their preference.
