About Me

I am a first-year Ph.D. student in the ECE Dept. and a member of the Center for Language and Speech Processing, working under the guidance of Mounya Elhilali. I am also a Graduate Fellow of the Human Language Technology Center of Excellence.

From 2006 through 2008 I worked for the Information Directorate of the Air Force Research Laboratory where I worked on various aspects of unsupervised audio segmentation. I also worked with colleagues on speaker and language recognition systems, as well as with speech modification.

Education

Temple University, M.S.E. in Electrical Engineering, 2007.

Temple University, B.S. in Electrical Engineering, 2005.

Research Interests

My general interests include statistical signal processing, pattern recognition, and various aspects of speech and audio signal processing. Some applications that I've worked on include acoustic speaker and language/dialect recognition, unsupervised audio segmentation, and detection of concurrent speech.

I am also particularly interested in computational models of audition and exploring how such models can help make current speech processing systems more robust. Furthermore, I am interested in how complex acoustic patterns such as speech and music are encoded along the auditory pathway.

Personal

In my free time (and when the weather cooperates), I enjoy weightlifting, running, snowboarding, and cycling. Most recently, I have also proven myself to be a crappy golfer. I also enjoy spending time with my wife, performing auditory scene analysis on the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, cooking, growing/shaving beards, and homebrewing beer. When I remember, I post occasionally to a weblog.
